Crochet Fingerless Gloves

Free Pattern for Crochet Fingerless Gloves

Time passes so fast and I can’t believe it’s been that long since my last blog post. With hubby coming home for the Holidays, we’ve been so busy and spent a lot of time going out of town. We surely enjoyed every minute of our little travel adventures but this also meant long hours of driving and/or staying under the heat of the sun while the dreaded traffic jam. Because putting sunscreen lotion isn’t hubby’s thing, I’ve noticed the back of his hands getting sun burned so I decided to make a pair of easy fingerless gloves that can help in a way to protect his hands.

Normally, I prefer to work in medium or worsted weight yarn because it works up so much faster. But living in a tropical country like ours with warm, sunny weather nearly all year round I wanted to make something that would feel lighter on the skin and can be worn everyday. So I had to bite the bullet and bought some mercerized cotton yarn. I must say making something wearable using a 0.90mm crochet hook was quite challenging. I had to fix the sizing along the wrist cuff over and over and I am just so happy it turned out pretty nicely.

The pattern is very easy to make and includes sizes that will fit pre-teens to regular adults. I actually made two extra pairs for myself and my niece and the sample pair of gloves on photo were my size. Can’t wait to use them when we go out for a bike ride!

MATERIALS:
• Hook: No.8 JAPAN IMIA crochet hook / 0.90mm crochet hook
• Yarn: Any fine mercerized cotton yarn (I used approximately 175 meters/1 roll of Cannon multicolored yarn for each pair).
• Small yarn needle
• 4 medium size buttons

ABBREVIATION/STITCHES:
• sc – single crochet (US) / dc – double crochet (UK)
• dc – double crochet (US) / tr – treble crochet (UK)
• st(s) – stitch(es)
• sl st – slip stitch
• dc2tog – decrease = crochet two double/treble stitches together
• [sc, inc] n times – repeat the pattern between parentheses n times.
• N (N, N) – required number of stitches for a Large (Medium, Small) size project
• ([N sts]) – number of stitches in a round after finishing round.

If you need guide with the stitches, you can always check my post about Basic Crochet Techniques HERE.

NOTES:
– Chain 2 at beginning of rounds does not count as first double crochet.
– Finished measurements on palm area/circumference (L-26cm, M-22cm, S-21cm), height below the fingers to wrist cuff is 13.5cm.
– To increase the width of the glove, add on more stitches on foundation chain. To increase the length of the glove, crochet more beginning rows (after Row 7).
– Please keep in mind that the glove will stretch over time with repeated wear and use.

From outside of the glove, insert hook in the 1st stitch around the bottom of the glove, catch yarn under then pull yarn directly through the stitch and into the loop on the hook (1st sl st made). Repeat the same steps in the next stitch to make the 2nd sl st, turn.
