Crochet Merry Christmas Garland

Christmas Garland Free Crochet Pattern

Last month I visited a newly opened Daiso Japan store near our town. They have this little section for crafting, knitting and crochet supplies and those multi-colored yarns particularly the green shade ones instantly caught my attention. I knew right then I want some for my Christmas project, and I can’t think of a better way to use them than making letter patches following my favorite “The Moogly Crochet Alphabet“, a free pattern by Tamara Kelly. On the other hand, the ball is an old coaster pattern of mine. By adding few stitches, it turned into a Christmas Ball applique. I’m glad I get to use it for this project that works great for the holidays.

So friends, here’s the pattern for my second crochet Christmas project for this year. You can change the colors and play around with it. I’d love to hear what you came up with. Please share!

MATERIALS:
• Hook 1: 3.5mm (E/4 US, UK 9) crochet hook
• Hook 2: No.4 Japan Steel crochet hook (1.25mm)
• Any red high bulk acrylic yarn to match the larger size crochet hook (I used RH yarn approximately 210 yards; 15 yards for each piece), and some gold color yarn for the ball cap.
• 1 skein of Daiso Japan Multi-colored cotton yarn (I picked the green shade)
• Yarn needle

ABBREVIATIONS/STITCHES:
• Magic ring
• ch – chain
• dc – double crochet (US) / tr – treble (UK)
• st(s)- stitch(es)
• [2 dc, dc] n times – repeat the pattern between parentheses n times.
• (N sts) – number of stitches in a round after finishing round.

If you need guide with the stitches, you can always check my post about Basic Crochet Techniques HERE.

NOTES:
– Finished Christmas Ball measures 3.5 inches in diameter (cap not included) while each letter measures approximately 2 inches. Any variations to hook size and yarn weight will result in a different sized ball.

Once done crocheting the letter patches, attach each letter patch onto the center of the ball using fabric glue or if you have more time you can sew them using whip stitch method.

FOR THE ROPE TO HANG THE GARLAND:

You have the option to chain a rope long enough for all the balls to fit, plus some extra at the ends for hanging. In my case since I still have some excess cord rayon from my previous Crochet Christmas Star Ornament project, I used that instead to hang the finished garland.

I hope you all enjoyed this pattern. Don’t forget to follow me on FACEBOOK, INSTAGRAM and PINTEREST for more crafty yarn adventure updates!

Have a Blessed Christmas and happy crocheting!
