DIY Stitch Markers

Make your own DIY Stitch Markers in a flash and have fun being creative!

Last week I finally got the chance to visit a local craft store before doing my weekly trip to the grocery store. I went straight to their DIY bracelet and charms section and bought all the materials I need to make my DIY stitch markers which has been on my bucket list for some time now.

As a busy mom, I find stitch markers very handy especially when I am working with long or complicated crochet patterns. By using one, I can leave my projects and continue to work on them later without having to worry about losing count of stitches. This is also the very reason I recommend using a stitch marker on each of my patterns, you don’t want to start all over again just when you are about to finish your work, right?

When I started making amigurumi toys which are often worked in continuous rounds, I used short scrap yarns or small safety pins as stitch markers then eventually I bought plastic stitch markers (because they are so cute and colorful) but to be honest they break so easily. Keep in mind that you are going to be opening and closing the stitch markers many times in just one pattern. Imagine if a pattern has 50 rounds, that would be the number of times you will need to open and close the marker. So I thought making my own DIY stitch markers that are durable is a smart way of saving a little money. You can also make your own! The instructions I have included below are so easy and it would only take you one trip to the crafts store to get the needed supplies. Just remember choose the items that will suit your style and enjoy making your DIY stitch markers!

MATERIALS:
• Big Lobster Clasp (I used a 14mm lobster clasp)
• Pendant or a charm of your choice
• Jump rings
• Chain-nosed pliers

To begin making your DIY stitch markers, take one jump ring and open it.

Note: The easiest way to twist open a jump ring is by using two combination pliers which you can find at most crafts or bazaar stores.

Position each plier on each side of the ring close to the opening, then twist the pliers away from each other. Open the jump ring wide enough to fit the clasp and pendant.

Thread the jump ring onto the clasp first then onto the pendant, then twist the jump ring back into place the same way you opened it.

Now you’re finished with your DIY stitch marker. I’m sure this time they will last for many, many patterns!
